Social Distancing on the Farm

Amy and I pray that each and everyone of you are staying healthy and staying home. For those who continue to provide essential services while the rest of us hunker down at home, we are grateful.

Like everyone else, our lives have changed radically over the last month. But life does go on and so does the turning of the seasons and in that regard our day to day routine hasn’t changed much at all. There are still animals to be tended and the greenhouse is full of seedlings. We’ll be planting potatoes in the next day or two and with 4 hungry oxen Gabe & I need to fence in another pasture.

There are four of us staying here. Besides Amy and myself, our youngest son, Gabe is home from college, along with his ox team, North and Star. A friend of his also came back with him, Gabby, who will be interning this summer. We’re pretty well provisioned with plenty of staples and canned goods in the pantry, a freezer full of meat and fresh eggs from our hens. I’ve been baking bread daily so we really only lack for milk and fresh produce.

I was out walking Elmer and Boris yesterday and took these shots. I don’t know what practical use I’m ever going to get out of them but I sure am having fun.
