We first traveled to Ecuador in 2012 on what at the time we thought would be a once in a life-time adventure vacation. We quickly fell in love with the country, the culture and the people. Since then we’ve been making annual buying trips to stock our website and sales booths in our local farm market and various sheep, wool and yarn festivals. Over time we’ve developed business relationships with a few family owned shops and indigenous women’s cooperatives.
Our yarn is produced by a cooperative located in San Roque, in the northern Andes province of Imbabura, a region primarily inhabited by an ethnic group known as the Otavalans. Some of the wool is locally sourced, some is imported from Uruguay. Since the climate in Imbabura is not conducive to growing cotton the cooperative incorporates cotton grown in Peru.
