Pine Forest

SUPER SOFT AND LUSCIOUS! All our fiber is produced by small-flock shepherds here in the US. Help support the small business person, and our US economy!

What a fantastic dark green! it looks just like our Christmas trees we raise on our back-20. PINE FOREST is vibrant, but deep and dark too.

PINE FOREST  is a joy to spin or felt. My blend of lots of alpaca and 2 different domestic wools (no foreign fiber here!) Makes a super soft roving that is easy to work with. No pulling or tugging required; neither short and fussy and full of neps.

PINE FOREST is a blend of 50% Huacaya Alpaca (for super-softness!), 30% long, wavy, Borderleister Wool (for strength and durability), and 20% short, crimpy Corriedale Lambswool (for softness and loft). PINE FOREST is super-easy to spin, even for beginning spinners, due to the wonderful Borderleister wool that I use in my roving. And PINE FOREST makes a soft but durable fabric when felted.

If you aren’t familiar about the wools that I use, let me tell you about them:

-Corriedale:Originated in New Zealand about 1900 from a cross between a Merino and a Lincoln longwool. It was brought to the US in 1914 by the Dept. of Agriculture, and has since become the 2nd most numerous breed worldwide. Their wool is fine and crimpy, like that of merino, but long and sturdy like that of Lincoln. Corriedale truly combines the best qualities that fiber artists are seeking.

-Borderleister: An old breed originally from England, Borderleister is known to be one of the sofest, and shiniest of the longwools. I get my Borderleister from registered breeds that have been bred for these specific characteristics, and their coats yield 6-10 lb of the lovliest fluff per year. I use Borderleister in my fiber blend to give our roving long wearability, fiber memory (meaning that it will spring back into shape well), and ease of spinning, to our rovings

-Alpaca:If you haven’t experienced the softness of alpaca, it’s time to try it!
100% Alpaca tends to be rather hard to spin, lacks “memory”, and wears through, but when it’s combined with wool it retains it’s softness, becomes much easier to spin, won’t stretch out, and won’t wear out as fast.

Wear PINE FOREST with almost anything— black, khaki, gray, navy, olive, red, burgundy, green, brown, or jeans.

I can see PINE FOREST knitted into a guy’s sweater. And felters, wouldn’t be perfect to make a hat and mitten set?

This wonderful roving is processed in our own little woolmill “from scratch”. Our roving is NOT made from commercial mills and then just hand-dyed. Oh no! This is truly HANDMADE, from fleece to roving! We wash, hand- dye, pick, and card right here on our farm, using our own machinery, so you can be sure of high quality! We support local, small shepherds in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. WE DO NOT use foreign grown or processed wool or alpaca. We skirt each and every fleece by ourselves, ensuring the best quality fiber that we can find. No harsh chemicals are used when scouring either— just biodegradable cleaners that we don’t mind going into our ground water. After all–this farm is where we live too!

PINE FOREST goes well with one of our other rovings, POSSUM LODGE. Want these or other colors? Look in our EBAY STORE for lots of other tones!
